The Sparkasse zu Lübeck sets a great example and signs the Charta der Vielfalt

The Sparkasse zu Lübeck stands for cosmopolitanism and tolerance. An appreciative and respectful attitude, and that towards all others, is thus something which goes without saying for the bank’s employees. In order to underscore this attitude, those responsible at the bank recently signed the Charta der Vielfalt (Diversity Charter) The Charta der Vielfalt, which was signed by the Management Board of the Sparkasse zu Lübeck in June 2023, is a voluntary commitment to promote diversity in companies and institutions. The initiative’s patron is German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. By signing the charter, Members of the Management Board Frank Schumacher and Oke Heuer have set a great example for diversity and tolerance in the working world. In addition, the initiative is also a sign of appreciation for all employees – and that completely regardless of age, ethnic origin and nationality, gender, physical and mental ability, religion and worldview, sexual orientation and social background.

The working world today is more colourful and diverse than ever before. “We are part of this diverse world. And that is a good thing. With our signing of the Charta der Vielfalt, we are making a clear commitment to this diversity and also clearly positioning ourselves in relation to our employees, our customers and society,” said Frank Schumacher, Chair of the Management Board of the Sparkasse zu Lübeck, underscoring the importance of the declaration of commitment. “We are part of our society. We bear responsibility for the fair treatment of others, for the common good. And we are well aware of this responsibility.”

Promoting diversity in a targeted manner also aids the Sparkasse zu Lübeck to tap the full potential of its employees. “Our colleagues only perform to their full potential when they feel respected and appreciated,” emphasised Frank Schumacher. “Diversity is an asset: for every company, for society, for us all,” added Oke Heuer, Member of the Management Board of the Sparkasse zu Lübeck. “Diverse teams are generally more creative, more productive and more innovative, which is why employees with different backgrounds and perspectives working together create the best and most sustainable solutions for our company, our customers and society as a whole,” continued Oke Heuer.

The Sparkasse zu Lübeck offers a working environment which takes different lifestyles into consideration. This includes flexible working hour models, mobile working options and support for a good work-life balance. Alongside the models for all employees, the Sparkasse zu Lübeck places a special focus on the support and encouragement of women in order to counteract the underrepresentation at management level and obstacles on other career paths. To date, the Charta der Vielfalt has been signed by more than 4,900 corporations, companies, public institutions, associations, foundations and organisations. The initiative thus represents more than 15 million employees.
